Because we reached out first goal of $1500, the absorbent material and a waterproof liner fabric has been ordered. These specific fabrics are essential to the performance of our pads, and we were able to order before the manufacturer's price increase. We will have the amount of the fabrics we need for the 500 starter packs – 1,000 pads. It's exciting! This is the first step toward getting production of the pads underway.
We hope to reach the $3,000 goal for June 11th, so we can get the remaining materials and start production as soon as possible. If we can get all the materials covered and ordered, then we can be powering through production through this summer. We don't know when the first "opportunity" or need to distribute will happen. This 2021 hurricane season could very likely create the first situation where we can distribute pads as part of a Filters for Families response.
The Second half of our fundraising goal explained:
So if the $3,000 is for starting material costs for 500 starter packs and $1,500 is the two speciality fabrics, then what is the remaining half for?
I'll tell ya (did anyone even ask): everything else. Okay, but specifically:
The outer fabric ( the pretty other fabric that you see on the pad) (while we may see if we can get some of this fabric donated, we do have some accounted in the budget- keep an eye out for future possible donations)
The snaps for the pads
The plastic bags that the starter packs will be "packaged" in, that provides protection for pads and can be used as a "wet bag" for used pads.
The printing of the info cards in the starter packs; that explain the pads, the care and keeping, a way to give feedback, and etc.
Other sewing materials needed: thread, bobbins, scissors, etc.
Patterns, like sewing patterns.
